History
Since 1821, Norton & Sons has been a hallmark of Savile Row craftsmanship, renowned for our bespoke tailoring and creating the finest garments for those who appreciate its art. In June 2024, we were delighted to extend this legacy to a new women’s made-to-measure service, bringing a fresh perspective to our 200 year Savile Row heritage.
Although we have always been known predominantly as a men’s tailor, few know about the exciting array of female clientele we’ve dressed throughout our history. From Queen Victoria, The Queen of Spain and the Empress of Austria, to helping create tailoring ranges for Christopher Kane, Jenny Packham and The Kooples. Our women’s tailoring service continues to embody the artistry and heritage of Norton & Sons, while also embracing modernity and innovation to cater to today’s women, who seek garments that reflect their individual taste and requirements.
Our house cut follows the same principles as our menswear - a silhouette that is natural, elegant and, most of all, comfortable. We keep things simple with a natural shoulder, slim sleeve, slim waist and slight flare of the skirt. Whilst maintaining a precise style, we will work with you to build on this template providing flexibility to your requirements.
As experts in the field, each of our tailors will guide you through the process, helping to advise you on the technical aspects of the cut, whilst working with you on your desired style.
The Process
Here at Norton & Sons, we are proud to be one of the few tailors on The Row that offer both Made to Measure and full Bespoke tailoring services for women. While both options result in a beautifully fitted garment, there are some important distinctions to consider when deciding which service best meets your needs.
Bespoke
Bespoke tailoring is at the pinnacle of everything we do. Each garment is crafted entirely from scratch, with a pattern created specifically for your unique body measurements and style preferences.
Bespoke tailoring on Savile Row is an art perfected over almost 700 years. At Norton & Sons our tailoring team assemble each suit without compromise; each piece of cloth and canvas that goes into your suits is painstakingly marked and cut by hand; thousands of hand stitches join the cloth to its canvas interlinings; the sections of the gar ment are skillfully shaped by hand into your exact for m; linings, edges and buttonholes are meticulously finished by hand.
Our tailoring team is composed of the finest specialist coat-makers, trouser-makers, vest-makers, alteration tailors, finishing tailors and pressers, all trained in their craft here on Savile Row.
Made to Measure
Our Made to Measure service offers a more streamlined approach than our Bespoke. While there are fewer customisation options compared to Bespoke, our Made to Measure still provides a high degree of personalisation and still results in an impeccable fit. This service is ideal for those looking for a faster turnaround and a more cost-effective solution without compromising on quality.
Over the past two years, our team has spent time developing our women’s house blocks, drawing inspiration from our successful men’s house cut while tailoring them to the unique curves and shapes of women. With each of these blocks, you become the designer. Selecting your preferences for buttons, lapel width, shoulders, pockets and more. In addition to jackets, you have complete freedom to customise trouser styles, allowing you to express your unique style personality.
The Single Breasted Jacket
Timeless and effortlessly versatile, the Single Breasted Jacket is a wardrobe essential that seamlessly adapts to both for mal and casual settings. With its clean lines and understated elegance, this jacket offers a refined silhouette that flatters the body while allowing for ease of movement. Whether tailored with a sharp peak lapel for a bold, structured statement or a softer notch
lapel for a subtle classical look, the single breasted design lends itself to a variety of occasions.

The Double Breasted Jacket
For a statement of confidence, the Double Breasted Jacket offers a striking, structured silhouette. Defined by its overlapping front panels and signature button closure, this design enhances the waist while creating an elegant, form-fitting shape with a commanding presence.
Its versatility lies in how you wear it. Buttoned up, it delivers sharp sophistication, perfect for for mal settings. Worn open over a blouse or knitwear, it takes on a more effortless, relaxed feel. The Safari Jacket
Drawing inspiration from our storied tradition of crafting garments for explorers and adventurers, we proudly present the Norton & Sons Women’s Safari Jacket. This piece combines the practicality of our menswear safari block with our slimmer, more tailored women’s block.
We have incorporated princess seams in the back and front darts to impart structure and shape to an otherwise unstructured garment.
Our Safari jackets are fully hand-canvased by our skilled tailors, allowing the fabric to mold perfectly to your body. Each jacket is
finished with a full lining, tie belt and tab and horn button cuff fastenings.
The Formline Jacket
New for Spring Summer, the Formline Coat is the latest addition to Norton & Sons womenswear, an elegant, sleeveless tailored jacket designed for effortless versatility.
Still cut to flatter the contours of your figure, it seamlessly transitions from day to night, adapting to different occasions through cloth and styling. By day, layer it over a crisp shirt for a polished, sophisticated look. By night, wear it over bare arms for a sleek statement look. To showcase its adaptability, our Spring/Summer collection features two distinct variations, demonstrating how this piece can be styled for a range of occasions.
Made to Measure Shirting
We offer made to measure women’s shirts which follows a similar process to our made to measure suiting service. You begin by choosing from two fits of shirt; classic or slim, and explore different styling options through collar shapes and cuff styles before selecting from a range of over 1800 fine shirting fabrics.
Overcoating
An Overcoat is the ultimate finishing touch to any outfit, offering both style and practicality. When designed thoughtfully, it provides the perfect statement for any winter look. Whether cut in a classic, streamlined silhouette or with a more dramatic, sweeping shape, the overcoat is crafted to complement the contours of your figure while also allowing for layering and movement.
