The Varsity Sweatshirt is an expression of classic collegiate sportswear, reinterpreted through the lens of Norton & Sons.

Cut from a heather grey cotton jersey, it offers a reassuring weight and structure, balanced by a relaxed silhouette. Traditional details such as the raglan sleeves, ribbed side panels and a V-notch detail at the collar give a nod to vintage athletic design, while maintaining a clean, considered profile.

The chest is embroidered with the iconic founding year of our house, while our signature ‘N’ sits discreetly at the back neck. Designed to pair effortlessly with tailoring or worn simply on its own, it forms a foundational layer within the new Norton & Sons 1821 Label.

Why we designed this…

The Varsity Sweatshirt introduces the spirit of our newly found 1821 Label, a capsule label focused on our sporting heritage.

Drawing on archival references from early collegiate and training garments, we set out to create a piece that honours the authenticity of traditional athletic wear while elevating it through fabrication, proportion and finish. The heavier cloth lends substance, the boxier cut gives it presence on its own or with a jacket and the detailing respects the integrity of its origins.

This is not sportswear in the technical sense but a considered interpretation of it. We have created a garment that reflects the enduring relationship between tailoring and sport that has long defined Norton & Sons.
